Another thing I've noticed about living in Asia... people in restaurants HATE substitutions, something that is perfectly acceptable in the US.
Today in Taipei I tried to order a MacDonald's set meal, but I didn't want fries, so I asked the lady at the counter if I could get an apple pie instead of the fries and I would just pay the difference in cost between the two items.
She gave me a really confused look and got the manager to talk to me ...
